Great people, bad company
All the people are really great, and you make some good friends. People are always quite receptive of new ideas. You get time to play around with new technologies.
IBM executives are a joke. It's a very top-down structure where they say jump and you're expected to jump. A high-performance culture has been implemented, but there's no salary change to match expectations. They've re-implemented an old review program that has proved in the past and is proving that it doesn't work; it just promotes everyone to do the bare minimum.
Stop micromanaging. Be a closed door, not open. Trust your employees to do their jobs.
