Pros
  1. Work-life balance
  2. Flexible timings
Cons

This is coming from an employee of GTS:

  1. "Old people" are given leadership responsibilities which require strong relevant skills & experience in some hot skills which they certainly lack.
  2. Discrepancies in salary hikes may occur as your project manager might not be your people manager.
  3. "Old people" are good at bluffing to maintain image and garner credits.
  4. Low energy in day-to-day activities (you might guess why).
  5. The culture of IBM India is vastly different from IBM abroad (certainly not in a good way).
  6. Sometimes your project goes for a toss as leaders who make decisions are not qualified for the role.
  7. Lack of long-term vision or a roadmap to guide the team.
  8. Dumb management.
  9. Horrible staffing (I had a 5 min interview for an 8 LPA job).
  10. People care about their egos more than they do about the product you're building.
Advice to Management
  1. Increase headcounts of the young & dynamic.
  2. Provide leadership roles to the young & dynamic with relevant skills, rather than old people with irrelevant experience.
  3. Hire bright minds even if you need to pay big.
  4. Invest in skills rather than politics.
  5. Accept that IBM is not the best in everything and there is a huge scope of improvement.
  6. Honor employees who contribute to open source.
  7. Gulp the fact that there is a world outside IBM.
