In my opinion, IBM is a company with no ambition and a lot of red tape. There is a feeling of mediocrity and complacency in the company. A good indicator, in my opinion, is the fact that they insist on using Lotus Notes for mail/IM, when there are far better and easier-to-use products available for free. This is just one of the examples of company practices that make no sense to most employees and that seem to exist just in order to make your life more difficult.
There is also a feeling of disregard for employees that are not management, and there are too many managers in the company. A large percentage of them seem at least uninterested in their jobs, if not incompetent.
Let go of antiquated corporate practices and learn from the innovators. Google, Facebook, and Microsoft must be doing something right to constantly be rated as some of the best places to work by their employees.
