I worked for IBM for 26 years, now retired. Over the years, I was well compensated and had many opportunities to advance. I had several job changes over the years, the last being a software engineer for the Information Management of the Software Group. This was the best job I had. I worked from home 100%, had very competent co-workers, and mostly good managers.
Over the years, benefits were slowly taken away, to the point where it seemed they were squeezing every last thing they could from the employees.
Just one example: workers at home were compensated for internet access when I started, but the last year I worked, they stopped.
Their reasoning was that everyone would have their own internet anyway, so why should IBM compensate? They gave us the option to go to a worksite, but since that was 90 miles away, that really wasn't an option.
Treat your employees as people rather than resources.
The interview process was quite relaxed. Initially, I had a phone interview with HR, followed by a technical phone interview with a team member. I also had a chat with the manager. Eventually, I was invited for an in-person interview. I traveled fr
IBM IPAT online test, assessment day with group activities and a solo interview (non-technical) at a physical location, two technical interviews (phone), an interview with the managing director of the local branch, and so on. All in all, a very easy
Given a link to a Hirevue interview. It took 3 hours to complete. The questions were not too difficult. There were a couple of standard interview questions and three algorithm/coding questions. Yet to hear back for the rest of the process.
