Pros
  • Many good people
  • Good work/life balance on the right team
  • Free coffee and snacks
  • Remote work allowed
Cons
  • Hiring standards quite low. Definitely not the best of the best.
  • Low pay. Non-existent bonuses.
  • On call with no pay.
  • Very low morale.
  • Constant reorgs and layoffs.
  • Endless bureaucracy.
  • Very poor product vision and not communicated clearly. Nobody knows why they're working on what they're working on or where we'll be in three months.

Don't buy into the Watson hype. It's not any better than traditional IBM.

If you want to punch the clock or this is your first job out of school, it's an OK choice. If you want to do something meaningful or have pride in your work, look elsewhere. If the team requires on call, run away fast.

Advice to Management

Have actual consistency. Communicate product vision clearly with teams. Realize ham-handed layoffs crush employee morale.
