Pros
  • Global, with an endless amount of opportunities to learn and grow.
  • 'Wild ducks' are valued immensely. A culture of innovation is inherent thanks to strong diversity of skills and personalities, embracing the uniqueness of each individual and fostering creative thinking and problem-solving.
  • You can (you are enabled to!) make or break your career here; it's all in your hands. There is an immense amount of support and initiatives to help you leave an impact, but you need to be determined and have the right attitude as well.
  • Lots of flexibility in many aspects, from work/life balance to day-to-day work and processes (this could be a good or bad thing depending on how it's embraced).

In the past year and a half, there has been a fast-paced initiative to #TransformIBM. I am amazed at the rate of delivery and the impact it's having on the workforce and results produced. It's truly amazing!

Cons
  • Complex offerings and complications (offer a Lamborghini when the client just needed a car).
  • Collaboration across offering management, business, design, and development can be bumpy, especially in large-scale, legacy, and global projects.
Advice to Management

Simplicity is key! The transformIBM initiative has been very fruitful, but larger and legacy groups need a massive shove to shake off old habits and pick up pace. (Room to shuffle and refresh senior management at director/VP levels).

Keep fostering a culture of innovation!

Tighten up your hiring process to fetch top talent and lean up. (Really need to be more competent with our salary structure and match the market).
