Tons of bureaucracy, but great with the right team
The right team allows you to thrive at IBM. There are so many opportunities that if you can find your fit, you can ascend the ranks very quickly. In general, most engineers are extremely smart people and more than willing to share their expertise.
The level of bureaucracy can be infuriating, especially in leadership positions. Arbitrary course direction is made based on competitor reaction, and decision-making is often obfuscated for no good reason.
