IBM struggles with its size
IBM allows you to have access to fantastic resources and pockets of deep technical excellence. Some of the people I have worked with have been visionary and inspired technical leaders.
Finance seems to be running the show. Dubious business decisions are made on the basis of financial data only, without regard for technical or marketing strategy.
Quit trying to drive everything to defined financial KPIs.
Focus on exposing your technical excellence, and the revenues will follow.
Too often, things are done in response to IBM organizational bureaucracy, rather than in response to customer needs or market needs.
