Pros

Good training, great for your resume. Benefits are in line with other large companies.

The best thing about IBM is the ability to move around.

Change is always occurring, and if you embrace change, you will succeed.

Go with the flow, look for opportunities, and be proactive. You can own your success if you work hard and support the company mission.

Very generous with vacation time and sick leave. Flexible in working from home.

Cons

For many years, it was an excellent place to work. Changes were made to focus attention on the stockholders rather than the employees. Benefits, such as physical exercise reimbursements, have been cut, and deductibles have gone up.

Work-life balance is impossible if you are in technical support or a technical center. Overall, exhausting.

Challenge: Many times, I cannot get a hold of people who work from home.

Advice to Management

IBM was the best place to work for years. In the past five years, the company has declined along with the price of stock. This should tell the story.

Lou Gerstner once said, "Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding." If you break the spirit of the people, you break the company.
