Process
A very nice recruiter called. He followed up with multiple emails that guided the entire process. He's the reason why this review wasn't negative.
- Architecture design
- Behavioral interview with a "senior engineering director" who kept yawning during the interview. The irony here is that it was a behavioral interview. I was concerned, so I asked him if everything was okay. He just straight-up said something along the lines of, "It's fine, I'll let you know when I hear enough." The guy will probably fail his own behavioral interview.

New CEO lit the whole company on fire
Engineering Manager • Former Employee
November 18, 2025
Pros: - Remote
- Unlimited PTO
- They let me keep my laptop when they laid me off
Cons: It is very much a surprise PIP culture now.
The vibes were in the gutter, and everyone is scared.
The products aren't even that good.
New CEO never shows his face (Chris used to at least every month) and openly acts like he doesn't care about his employees.
They do silent layoffs, reorgs all the time.

Career killer, good for new parents or retirement on the job
Engineering Manager • Current Employee
Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan
October 16, 2023
Pros: + Delicious eats at the cafeteria
+ Complimentary snacks
+ Java on the house
Cons: - Inadequate coordination and management across teams.
- Consistent grievances from various teams under all GMs, citing redundancy among multiple teams.
- Constant challenges in Japan vs. US collaboration.
- The US management's previous emphasis on increasing employee count as an achievement was a central theme, with pride in phrases like "I expanded the team to X."
- Subpar middle to senior management, lacking understanding of management principles such as operational leverage and project management. The management tends to excessively micromanage experienced engineers, allocating specific tasks and dictating their actions, which is not an efficient use of time.
- Minimal upward feedback, and neither Japan nor US managers pose the basic question: "How can we improve?" And the few that do, don't act upon it.
