Site Reliability Engineer Interview Experience - Chicago, Illinois

Process

The interview process began with a recruiter call, followed by a one-hour coding interview on HackerRank conducted by Karat. This was then followed by four onsite interviews, presumably with Indeed engineers.

The recruiter call focused on the company's benefits and compensation.

The Karat interview was a one-hour technical assessment that included:

  • 5 minutes for introductions (candidate and interviewer)
  • 10 minutes for 10 scenario-based questions
  • 40 minutes for a coding exercise

I did not receive a response after the Karat interview, and the recruiter did not reply to my emails.

The Karat interview felt like a waste of my time and energy. The interviewer interrupted my introduction due to time constraints. We only managed to cover four out of ten scenario-based questions in the allotted 10 minutes before moving on to the coding exercises. All three coding questions were based on graph data structures.

With over eight years of experience in the DevOps field, I have never encountered coding questions related to graph data structures. This interview seemed more suited for a Software Engineer role.

This was the worst interview experience I have ever had.

Questions

All three Karat coding exercise questions were related to the Map data structure.
