Software Engineer Interview Experience - Tokyo, Japan

Process

They started with an onsite coding quiz, which took two hours.

After that, there were four technical interviews, each on a different day and about two weeks apart (so the interview process overall took quite a long time), lasting about an hour each. The questions ranged from the practical to very computer-sciency and were reasonably challenging.

I made it to the third technical interview, which was set up and canceled twice before they finally got their act together. The interview ended up being late at night (office hours for Austin, in other words – I'm in Tokyo), which affected my performance. I probably shouldn't have agreed to it, but they would not budge on the time.

Up to that point, the experience had been positive or perhaps neutral because of the drawn-out process, but it ended on a decidedly negative note.

Even accounting for the late hour of the interview, the first two interviewers were great and easy to build a rapport with and work on the problems. The third interviewer was... not any of those things.

Questions

My first in-person interview was heavy on graph theory, a topic with which I don't have much hands-on experience. However, I was able to come up with a good solution regardless.
