I received a call from a consultant recruiting for Intuit. Although he wasn't a technical engineer, he asked me some basic C++ questions to ensure I qualified for an on-site interview.
The on-site interview started at 10 AM and concluded at 4 PM, including three technical interviews, one with a manager, and one with HR.
Two of the three technical interviewers did not indicate whether I was performing well. I knew I wasn't doing particularly well answering C++ questions and a few programming logic questions.
The third technical interview, conducted by an architect, went reasonably well. I informed the architect that my performance hadn't been strong, to which he replied that people typically perform at about 70% of their capacity during interviews, and that this is understood.
I briefed him on my work, the books I've read, and my general technical mindset. He understood my perspective and was very convinced.
I was offered a job and spoke with HR to adjust the offer to my requirements, which they accommodated.
Overall, it was a smooth experience.
They were ready to send a car to pick me up from home to collect the offer letter. Additionally, I received a box of chocolates by post as a goodwill gesture. After all, life is like a box of chocolates.
I am still at Intuit, and it is a reasonably good place to be if one's charter is to develop applications that wow the customers.
