Full Stack Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

June 11, 2022
Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

Initial interview with manager, covering behavior and one tech question.

Second interview with lead engineer on the project, with verbal tech questions.

The second interviewer was an engineer who only did back-end. She asked me a Cracking the Coding Interview question.

Third interview was supposed to be with one lead engineer, but three engineers came to the interview. The interviewer who was supposed to interview me was late. After he said he wouldn't be able to stay for the whole interview time, he had his junior engineer ask me tech questions. Then, he and the third engineer both turned their cameras off.

The junior engineer's first question was, 'What are the new features of React 18?'

I replied, 'React 18.0 is a breaking change and it just came out three weeks ago. With a simple Google search, I can tell you which new hooks are included.'

He was inexperienced, and the tech questions were mainly about JavaScript and not React. The job description didn't state JavaScript was a needed skill, or I would have brushed up on it.

I don't believe he had a copy of my resume or the job I applied for. It was very odd. They weren't even in the same location or department I applied for.
