Salary hikes are a big joke. Even after a good year-end review and rating, you will get a below-average hike. You don't have frequent conversations with your manager, so he doesn't know how much effort you put in. Your lead is responsible for it, and even he does a worst job in providing your right feedback, resulting in a very poor hike. Later on, all will come apologizing and give you a lecture on how fantastically it will pay you off next coming year.
Employees put a great deal of effort throughout the year. The least that could be done is to provide a basic hike after a good year-end review.
