Pros

Compensation was very decent at first, but they were asleep at the wheel when it came to retention.

Benefits and PTO were generous.

The tech stack is decently modern and good on the resume, but this depends on which department you end up in. There is all sorts of space-age machine learning stuff, but also a ton of awful COBOL stuff.

Coworkers at the VP/Associate level were mostly nice.

Cons

Giant bureaucracy with low trust and slow OODA loop. The people who make decisions are almost never the people who have to live with those decisions, and it takes a long time for feedback to filter back up to the decision makers.

Low-level managers (around VP/ED level typically) have almost no authority to make meaningful decisions or fix problems. A lot of problems can't be fixed without traversing half a dozen layers of management, and typically problems will be covered up rather than propagated up the chain of command, making it worse. People who send problems up the chain of command don't make it, and people who cover up problems and only report good news get promoted.

Compensation has fallen far behind, causing many people to quit in the past year. As is typical, management doesn't hear about problems until it is too late. Work from home was handled in a completely heavy-handed manner, and a ton of people quit. Again, management does what it thinks is best and doesn't listen to anyone. It took probably a year for them to even realize they had a retention and hiring problem from this. They still haven't fixed anything.

Advice to Management

Management is making tons of money and is obviously happy with the culture, so why change?
