Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I went through three phone interviews for the job of developing Simulink before getting rejected.

I didn't really want this job because I was initially declined from another position at MathWorks and was offered this job as an alternative. Then, I decided to give it a try.

The first interview focused on my PhD research. The other two interviews involved technical questions, with many C++ design pattern questions asked. These were not areas I was familiar with, as I never needed to use them in my PhD research and hadn't spent time preparing. Nothing related to my research or computer graphics was asked, which prevented me from showcasing my strengths.

One unfortunate aspect was that I wasn't informed of my rejection until I asked the recruiter two months later. The recruiter did not sound friendly when delivering the news.
