Process

I applied for a new grad front-end engineer position through the University of Waterloo's job posting system.

I was contacted by a recruiter via email on a Friday, with the interview scheduled for the Wednesday of the following week. A meet and greet, an informal reception, occurred on the Tuesday evening before the interview.

I found the interviewer and employees at the reception to be very friendly. The 45-minute interview consisted of questions regarding my work experience and projects, followed by two technical questions.

Questions

  1. In JavaScript, write a function that takes an array as input. This array can contain both integers and other arrays (which can also contain arrays or integers). The function should return the flattened array.

ex. [1, [2, [ [3, 4], 5], 6]] should result in [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].

  1. Using HTML and CSS, show how you would create an image that displays another image when the user hovers over it. This secondary image should be aligned to the bottom right.

ex. The Facebook "edit profile picture" icon.
