A recruiter reached out to me through the Meta careers portal, where I already had a profile containing my CV. She stated that I could be a good fit for the role and invited me to the next stage.
The next stage was a 20-question multiple-choice questionnaire, which you have 18 minutes to answer. The questions were straightforward, focusing on networking (particularly BGP) and Linux systems. I passed this stage.
After that were two screening interviews: networking and coding.
For networking, I was asked to describe in detail the processes that happen when you enter www.facebook.com in your web browser. This included DHCP, ARP, DNS, HTTP, and SSL. It's crucial to know your OSI model, what operates on each layer, and how.
Following the networking interview was the coding interview. This was challenging as I am not a software engineer/computer science student. You need to be able to answer LeetCode easy and medium questions. I was asked about valid parentheses and only arrived at the solution with significant hints and guidance.
Similar to other top-paying tech companies, Meta is looking for software engineers who can also perform network engineering tasks.
