This was a 7-round interview process for an L6 (Senior) / L7 level Lead Data Generalist Data Engineer role.
The recruiters were very helpful.
This role was for a senior-level lead position focused on a couple of new, confidential initiatives. The interview was rescheduled because the company stated it was a senior-level interview and they needed to secure senior-level interviewers.
Initial one round full of leadership-related questions. I didn't expect a full hour of leadership questions. This round was unexpected as the recruiter didn't tell me it was a leadership round. I was told it was a hiring manager screen where they wanted to check the fit. There were two hiring managers (of the two teams looking for a lead).
Initial coding screening - two Python coding questions, the same as others mentioned on Glassdoor. One data modeling question (social media site) and a set of SQL questions against the data model.
Data pipeline system design interview. Asked high-level and low-level details of a high data volume, real-time pipeline.
Behavioral questions with cross-team based questions.
Technical round with an ETL-related question, applying SQL coding. One Python coding question to build a grouping-based ETL using Python. The output could easily be provided using an SQL script. The challenge was to build the same using Python. This should be manageable for someone very hands-on. Unfortunately, I wasn't. Though I could write pseudocode and think through the solution, I couldn't write the actual code within the time.
Design the data model for a ridesharing app and answer a set of questions using SQL. I underestimated the complexity of a couple of SQL questions in this round.
