A recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn. We set up an initial telephonic chat, followed by two telephonic interviews. Both were coding and algorithms-related.
I didn't do well in the first one; I received feedback that I was slow in providing responses. Because of my background, they kindly gave me another chance, which I did okay in.
This was followed by an on-site interview. I wanted to do well, so I took a while to prepare and scheduled the interview date almost three weeks later. I practiced over 100 questions on LeetCode and also studied large-scale system design questions. I practiced daily for two hours just for this interview. This really helped me come up with solutions during the on-site interview.
The on-site consisted of:
Except for the first coding question, where I didn't completely understand the problem due to the interviewer's poor communication skills, I gave my best in all other rounds.
After waiting for almost two weeks, I received feedback that they were passing on my application. I guess my best wasn't enough for them. Sometimes, even when you prepare well, certain factors make you unfit for the job; that's fate.
In any case, overall I had a great experience and got a chance to visit the Facebook campus. As someone mentioned here, it looks like Facebook hasn't been giving offers to any SE candidates since January 2016, despite people performing well in interviews. Of course, if we think we are doing well, that doesn't mean the interviewers are also thinking the same.
Just practice LeetCode.
