Software Engineer Interview Experience - Menlo Park, California

Process

A recruiter contacted me. I set up a phone interview, but encountered strange telephone problems and could not understand my interviewer very well. The questions were general algorithm questions in Python, well-suited to a phone interview, but I wasn't pleased with my overall performance.

The recruiter contacted me again for a second phone screen, stating there "wasn't enough of a signal" the first time. Apparently, this is not common. The second phone screen had issues with the collaborative editing software used for coding; I had to stop, copy, and repaste my code several times for some reason. Again, the questions were well-suited to the interview format. I thought I performed better, but no better than an average performance, probably.

There was no offer. The whole process took about a month, though I intentionally delayed the phone screen for personal reasons.

Questions

I was asked the 3-sum problem.

Basically, given an array of integers, find three that sum to a given value.

Alternately, find all triplets that sum to the given value.
