Process
As an internal interview process, I had only 3 interviews to go through. When I joined as an SDE 15 years ago, it was quite different. They usually scheduled the first 3 interview loops. If all 3 interviews went well, it would then proceed to 2 more interviews. The last interview was usually with the hiring manager, and they would sometimes ask tough questions, but most likely it was just a formality.

Great company, if you have thick skin for politics

Pros: Lots of smart people, different groups with different work environments, great benefits and offices.
Good compensation in general.
Cons: Built around a declining business model, and it is noticeable. At some point, you can't keep growing without getting bruised with politics. If you're not politically talented, you will at least need to have a high tolerance for it and know to stay away from people's destructive paths. Switching jobs internally is not simple, and upper management can easily block you using obscure rules.

Great Place to Work

Pros: Exciting work, great pay and benefits, and the ability to use new technology. Microsoft is a place where you can easily move around to work on new challenges when you are ready.
Cons: Lack of free food, which is seen in many tech companies. Healthcare is no longer free, but they do provide money each year to cover a portion of what you might have to pay. You just have to save that up for two years to no longer have to pay anything out of pocket.

Pros: Ability to move between and work on different product lines within the company.
Reasonable work-life balance (WLB).
The company is trying to execute fast in all product lines.
Excellent benefits.
Microsoft has started embracing open source and contributes as well.
Cons: Many a time, [one] adds features to products that are technologically great but may not get customer adoption quickly. So, it may be hard sometimes to see the impact of your work if you are working on such a feature.
