I applied through Microsoft Careers. A couple of weeks later, I was contacted by the Hiring Manager via e-mail, who suggested a phone conversation.
During the phone call, we discussed my past experience and my approaches to solving problems. I was also asked to solve an algorithmic problem.
Soon after that, I was contacted by the HR team, who invited me for an on-site interview in Redmond. The trip to the on-site was perfectly organized, and I really enjoyed it.
I had a whole day of on-site interviews. I was pleasantly surprised that, besides algorithmic and design problems, the interviewers also discussed my past experience, asked for examples of how I solve problems at work, and overall, they definitely read my resume.
A couple of weeks after my on-site interview, I was contacted by the recruiter, who told me that I had received an offer.
Various algorithmic problems.
Nothing unexpected.
