Having interviewed for an SDE role in the US previously, I expected a similar level of professionalism, especially from a company like Microsoft. However, this was not the case.
I was approached to take an online interview/technical screening, which went well. I correctly answered two coding challenge questions without issue.
However, there was a network-related question that I found quite odd, as the job description did not mention any requirement for that type of knowledge. I was upfront about my limited experience but answered as best I could. In all honesty, I later checked the question against my answers and realized I wasn't that far off.
After the interview, there was basically no contact from the recruiter (Philippines-based) unless I prodded constantly for feedback or the result. Even then, they would only try to offload me to someone else.
I finally received some feedback after clicking the "Contact Recruiter" button on the Action Center page. Surprise, surprise: it went to someone local who informed me I failed due to the network question (which, again, was not on the job description).
