Software Development Engineer Interview Experience - Champaign, Illinois

Process

The process was very quick, with only a 30-minute interview at a university. I personally found the interview to be unfair. The interviewer asked a question about finding a piece of data in an array. He stated my implementation was not good enough and asked me to revise it. To revise it for greater speed, it was assumed all the data was unique, which was not stated nor implied in the problem statement. The interviewer then felt the need to explain binary search and O(log n) to me, assuming I knew nothing.

Overall, more focus is placed on the ability to solve problems very fast rather than reviewing the candidate's quality in other aspects. In short, if you cannot do what they ask in a way they like, you're not good enough.
