Process

There was only one phone interview. Some questions on it were about testing toasters, a task about finding a certain ball from 12 balls, and so on.

Also, there were three onsite interviews within ten days after the phone interview. I was asked to solve three tasks:

Write merge sort.
A string problem.
A number notation problem.

There were no behavioral questions.

Questions

An unexpected question was about number systems. I did not fully understand one, perhaps mostly due to my poor English, so the interviewer had to change the problem.

Pros: Good working environment, a lot of training materials for new grads to start, technically driven, good benefits, brand recognition, and decent work-life balance.

Cons: The company is left behind in the Internet field. The mind sight is still software-focused, not user-oriented. There are too many processes and overhead, so it's not agile enough. It takes 3 years to transfer from China to the US.

Cons: The company is left behind in the Internet field. The mind sight is still software-focused, not user-oriented. There are too many processes and overhead, so it's not agile enough. It takes 3 years to transfer from China to the US.

Pros: The work atmosphere was extremely good, with completely flexible timings. Communication to mentors and managers was completely open. Adequate machines and tools were given to work, and I was trusted with my work.

Cons: There could be more intern-employee conversion transparency, and some training on corporate life and programming. It took me quite a while to learn what I had to do, so previous indication of which team and project I would be working on would have gone a long way in having an idea before joining the team.

Cons: Switching to other teams within Microsoft is insanely hard. Sometimes you don't get the feel of where the company is moving to early enough.
