A great place to get started
Software Development Engineer • Former Employee
Bellevue, Washington, United States
March 7, 2016
Pros: Great place to land coming out of college as an engineer. I was surrounded by strong technical mentors and able to get up to speed with the industry without regularly working ridiculous hours. I truly appreciate the culture of work-life balance.
Cons: I was looking for opportunities to work hard and get ahead. I wanted to see my efforts and contributions reflected directly in my career trajectory, and I felt that I wasn't going to do significantly better in terms of learning or making advancements by working super hard.
I also wanted to diversify my skill set instead of just focusing on engineering, and that was hard to do in the environment.

Was an intern in 2014.
Software Development Engineer • Former Employee
Redmond, Washington, United States
November 15, 2014
Pros: The environment was supportive. At least in the group that I was working on, people seemed pretty happy with their direct leadership.
If one was interested in Microsoft, now would probably be the time to join, given the shifts that are occurring. (Note: this applies mostly to software engineers, since they are gutting some positions in order to reach a certain ratio between developers and PMs.)
Cons: You can notice the dead weight at times. It definitely seemed like Satya Nadella, the new CEO, was trying to take the company in the right direction. While I would bet for them succeeding as opposed to against, you can tell it'll probably still take a decent while.

Pros: Own Office
Good benefits: Medicare for family, paid parental leave, etc.
Smart people to work with
Recent pay raise
Flexible working hours
Cons: Too much emphasis on visibility, which may neglect people doing solid work.
Stock is not moving anywhere for 10 years?
I see solid people forced to get a low rating due to a strict curve.
