Microsoft is a very big company, but they still like clever people. The interviewer is a pretty nice guy, and the whole process is pretty relaxing.

Pros: The company still attracts and retains good engineering talent. The benefits program is outstanding.
The company still has an extremely strong presence in the PC/desktop market. Very good compensation.
Cons: Microsoft is no longer seen as a "hot" place to work, so the concentration of top-flight engineering talent is less dense than it used to be. Senior management has shown confusion with its business strategy over the last decade, having difficulty shipping Vista and always playing catch-up with Google. Innovation is limited. The company is slow-moving and can take a long time to get anything interesting done. Size can be stifling.

Pros: Flexible work hours, great medical benefits, a stable environment, and decent salaries (relative to peers/competitors). The brand name can help with future employment. The cost of living in the Greater Seattle area is reasonable.
Cons: Too much red tape and internal politics at every rung of the corporate ladder. Decisions are made in an extremely slow and inefficient manner (even relative to other Fortune 100 peers).
