Process

The recruiter came on campus at the beginning of September. I had an interview on campus with an engineer from Microsoft. The interview included basic behavioral questions and a request to design the Battleship game on the whiteboard.

Subsequently, I traveled to Redmond, WA, for four interviews, each lasting 45-50 minutes. These interviews consisted of:

  • 10-15 minutes of behavioral questions
  • 25-30 minutes of coding (one design question, two problem-solving questions, and one data structure question)
  • 5 minutes or more for me to ask questions.

(Do not neglect this part! Avoid the usual "What's the typical day at Microsoft?" questions. Instead, inquire about specific projects or the interviewer's experience.)

Everything was paid. The recruiters on-site were very nice and friendly, as were the interviewers.
