Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

An hour-long phone screen was set up. The process was really quick. Once I talked to the recruiter for the position over LinkedIn, a screening was scheduled.

I was shared a link to a live code editor. The questions were not difficult at all. I would classify them as LeetCode Easy, since they are pretty standard questions. However, I believe the interviewer had a hard time understanding the solution I was trying to convey. This wasn't necessarily due to communication gaps, but more because the interviewer had some solution in mind while asking the question, and I did not spit out the exact one they wanted. I did not expect this from a company like Microsoft.

There were no questions about thought process, algorithm efficiency, or time-space trade-off discussions.

Overall, it was a really bad experience. I was rejected despite having answered the questions correctly.

Prep help: Microsoft does not seem to ask original or new questions or check your thought process. If you can do all the CTCI questions, you'll be in good shape.
