Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

Worst experience I've ever had. I did an initial on-campus interview with Microsoft. They asked a stupidly easy LeetCode question where everybody who had studied beforehand would be able to get it in less than five minutes.

I waited for two months, but they never got back to me to schedule my on-site interview. I followed up with the recruiter multiple times. Initially, she said I would hear back in one to three weeks, then it became three to six weeks. Honestly, it was a waste of time. They treated you like a second-class citizen when you don't have a pending offer.

Advice to their recruiting team:

If you want to use on-campus interviews as a way to weed out people, maybe you should ask slightly harder questions. Otherwise, you can just fly everyone on-site and skip the on-campus interview.

You should also keep in mind that most people don't just apply to Microsoft, and a lot of companies' offers expire in one to two weeks. This is not enough time to do an on-site interview and get the final decision.

Questions

Mine was the 2 Sum question on LeetCode. One of my friends got asked the Valid Palindrome question (check if a string is a palindrome).
