Process

This was an interview for another intern position after I had turned down my original re-offer. Microsoft required me to turn down my original team-specific offer to start another process with another team.

As a result, they flew me out immediately to the Redmond campus to interview with a particular team that they told me about on the day of the interview. Having worked with this group overall the previous summer, my interviewing experience was wonderful. The interviewers were insightful and interested in the candidates. I must say that I learned a lot from throwing around optimization ideas, product concepts, and software architecture sketches with my interviewers. I was notified at the end of the day that I had an offer.

However, the recruiter contacted me two weeks later stating that they had over-offered in terms of positions and could no longer give me a position with the group I had originally interviewed with. They were helpful in finding another internship match in another team, taking my interests into account as much as possible.

Since I was very specific about my internship topic that summer, I ultimately turned down the offer they gave me, but they were certainly accommodating in trying to amend for the mistake on their part.
