Mental health is important, especially during layoffs. Many in my area were laid off due to our business no longer being needed. It was unorganized and quite traumatic. I just feel that with all the education and best practices, this could have been done much better, especially under the current economic climate we are facing, with people already struggling and stressed.

Layoffs are understandable, but these are people who gave to your company, and most really cared about their work. They deserved a better layoff experience, to say the least.

Maybe look into making this a specialty? Layoff specialists who are trained in empathy, tact, and giving all of the information correctly and gently.

People should at least be trained in this if that's part of their job description, especially considering how heavily the experience will affect them.
