Pros
  • High pay for interns
  • Fruits, snacks, beer, and pop
  • Extremely talented full-time coworkers who mentored me
  • Looks great on a resume
Cons

Asking questions was extremely discouraged.

Office politics, which is usual, affected interns as well, and that was an odd experience.

There were an unreasonable amount of expectations from interns.

Management did not know how to handle or mentor a co-op's career growth. If you looked overwhelmed, they advised you give up software development as a career.

Most people had an extremely high ego.

People were getting laid off, and new hires would join all the time.

Not much to learn if you don't network and ask lots of questions to people who are okay with you asking.

Advice to Management
  • Train managers on handling employees and not just being the point of contact for requirements.
  • Create some incentive for co-ops to return after full-time.
  • Be more transparent if you are not happy with an employee instead of holding it back until the last-minute review time.
