Pros

You will meet a few high-quality people.

Cons
  • Old framework (at least in my division) is used. At the time I left, our version of Angular was 4 major versions behind (Angular 17 was live, but the tech team was using 13 with no plans I was aware of to upgrade).

  • Management will not invest in any tech tools you ask for, so again, you may start to fall behind with your development skills.

  • You will likely remain a contractor for FAR LONGER than at other companies. Our tech lead (an excellent developer) still had not been converted to FTE after 4+ years, and this was not uncommon with the people I spoke with (I was at 3+ years).

  • Even as a developer, you will have way too many meetings, many of which you will walk away from with the feeling that it was mostly/completely a waste of time.

  • There were so many silo-ed layers of tech/codebase ownership that it sometimes was very challenging to complete tasks which required another team's help.

Advice to Management
  • Reduce the number of meetings for developers.
  • Reduce the number of years before conversion to FTE; 4+ is too many.
