Good Work Life Balance Corporate Job

Senior Software Engineer • Current Employee

Chicago, Illinois, United States

February 19, 2025

Pros: High salary, amazing office, good work-life balance. Your boss will be the first to recommend the mindfulness room if you suggest a nap. Coming in as a contractor allowed distance from the corporate aspects and allowed focus on project work.

Cons: It's a megacorp. Your entire job is going to be "taking things offline" and "aligning on value metrics," which you then code in 15 minutes.

High performance with high forced attrition

Senior Engineer • Former Employee

Los Gatos, California, United States

Pros: Good pay, though not compared to expectations. It's good ROI for Netflix, not for the employee. If you're an expert and stuck in your place, Netflix can reward you well. It can allow you to be a master of everything and let merit speak louder than leadership.

Cons: It depends on your manager's discretion. So, if you're guarded to be yourself, then it's the place to work. Unrefined office culture is prone to exploitation. Counterproductive culture and fear are developed and growing faster.
