I suspect they weren't serious about hiring and were merely browsing the job market to gauge compensation trends. The initial phone screen was straightforward, primarily focusing on HashMaps, their Java implementation, and the necessity of equals() and hashCode() methods.
There was also a simple coding question.
Following this, onsite interviews took place.
The first interviewer inquired about determining object equality for rectangles, then delved into HashMaps and hashCode() implementation. They seemed insistent on hearing the phrase "strategy design pattern," even after I provided a solution that effectively utilized it.
The second interview involved two coding questions, which were quite easy: one related to the median of an array and another for level order traversal.
The third interview was a design-focused session.
The fourth was a more behavioral discussion with a director.
The fifth was with HR. She was overly eager to promote Netflix and asked about my current salary. I expressed discomfort sharing exact figures but stated my expectations. She persisted, explaining that precise salary data was crucial for them to remain competitive in the market, which I found confusing.
I received a rejection email the following day, which was surprising given that my interviews felt successful. I requested feedback but received no response; I assume they obtained the information they needed. Regardless, I wouldn't have left my current job for Netflix, as I sensed a culture that aligns with the concerns often mentioned on Glassdoor.
Median of a stream of integers, solved using two heaps (min and max).
Print tree level-wise.
There are 10,000 servers, and a file of size 1 MB needs to be sent to each server, starting from a laptop. There is only 1 MB bandwidth between each server. The shortest time for this is possible. Solved using a tree, and can be done in logarithmic time.
