Called by HR with technical questions. I asked about a couple of pictures with engineering concepts, and I answered them thoroughly, despite HR not being able to tell if my explanations made sense. HR was reporting the final answer, if A was larger than B. Did not pass this step. I am not sure if this hiring method is even cost-effective, or how they measure the qualification of a Ph.D. applicant by wasting HR's time on technical questions. Very disappointed.
