Process
This was a typical LeetCode-style assessment in video format. The interviewers weren't that good at the interview part of things.
FAANG is much better when it comes to these assessments, as their problems often make sense. I was met with a 'gotcha' question at Niantic.
Questions
Recursive functions, a very easy question.

A great company to work for, with a great mission to work towards
Software Engineer • Current Employee
Bellevue, Washington, United States
April 16, 2018
Pros: - Very cutting-edge work in Augmented Reality happening in the company.
- The company visibly works towards their mission of bringing people outside and interacting with their world and their communities.
- Strong leadership that really seems to understand the industry.
- Great, intelligent coworkers and a strong, fun company culture.
Cons: Although it has been improving as of late, the company could improve in communication with the player communities of our games (Pokémon Go and Ingress).

Good work-life balance but poor management foresight
Software Engineer • Former Employee
Los Angeles, CA
September 17, 2026
Pros: There was a good work-life balance, at least in the LA office, which has closed since the Scopely PGO takeover.
Cons: Management refused to see the writing on the wall for the success of the company's slate of games, as well as long-term feasibility for its platform.

Smart engineering talent
Software Engineer • Current Employee
June 9, 2022
Pros: Almost every engineer is a competent and smart bunch. I'm always learning something new every day.
Cons: Competing with giants like Fb in the AR space is hard. We are struggling to diversify our revenue base, which mostly comes from PokemonGo.
