Java Applications Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I applied via a recruiter, and the process took one week.

The processes were good enough.

After the first phone screen, they sent me questions and asked me to answer and reply by the next day. The questions were about REST, OOAD, Testing, and design patterns. They also asked questions from that question sheet during the interview. The questions were not too difficult.

I was too nervous and not well prepared for the WebEx setup, so it took me five minutes to start by borrowing a friend's laptop because he already had WebEx set up. After that, I couldn't focus at all until the end.

Questions

The first phone screen asked about overall experiences, working process, software quality, and problem-solving (e.g., finding the most duplicated word in a string using a HashMap). They also inquired about handling strings that are extremely long, say a million characters or even bigger. How would you solve this? How would you test this method?

The second interview involved a business problem where you had to design a REST API. You were asked where you would start, what corner cases to consider, how you would test it, and how much testing is enough.
