Pros
  • Good for beginners.
  • Trainings and so on.
  • Some focus on quality.
  • Really cool people.
  • Probably better than small companies if you're not a dev/ops type (jack of all trades), yet worse than some other corporations.
Cons
  • Too much politics and pretending, corporate talk.
  • Salary not competitive. Sometimes you need to leave the company and come back to get a raise or a salary similar to a less experienced dev, which is simply ridiculous.
  • Lack of expert contractors / technical leaders.
  • Too many "Scrum zealots"; just do what the book says and use the tools we gave you.
  • Overtime: some sites are working hard, some not, taking advantage of it.
Advice to Management

Hire trusted externals or somebody not tied to site management to verify their way of working, project management, and approach to employees and their environment. Do they care about a few managers or hundreds of devs? Talk with regular employees. It should take weeks.

I don't believe in evaluation by Nokia. Too much politics, as already said, and sometimes feedback results in a manager's impractical proposals or ideas.

Introduce competitive salary. Everybody knows how it is. Some people are just used to it or not brave enough to admit that, while others just leave.
