Old-fashioned engineering with zero diversity. Not a great place for new engineers to start their career

Pros
  • Above average base salary (for me, anyways).
  • RSU quantity is not bad (although stock has been stagnant).
  • Free food? (but then again, this is standard nowadays).
  • Some cool stuff to work on (new 100% cloud products).
Cons
  • Zero diversity (in engineering at least).
  • Old-fashioned top-down approach (directors and VPs still heavily involved in technical decisions).
  • Leadership is overly protective of things they had personally built in the past.
  • Micromanagement from senior leadership on mundane day-to-day work.
  • Mostly uninteresting product. 90% on-premise software using outdated technologies.
  • Old-fashioned 6-month release cycle / waterfall model.
  • 2000-member engineering org is bloated.
Advice to Management
  • Seriously work on diversity.
  • Get rid of underperforming engineers/managers. 2000 people is too much for the amount of work.
  • SVPs and Directors need to step aside and stop managing the technical work. Let your engineering teams take control.
  • Don't force everyone into the same old-school 6-month planning/release cycle.
  • Don't be so protective of existing products. As they say, innovate or die.
