Pros: Stock growth due to core Hardware business.

Cons: Their core system software may be OK (those C/C++ teams). But those internal tooling/supporting teams are terrible. These are the so-called infra/cloud teams. Although they advertise that they are a hardware company that has built its software strength, the truth is that good software practice is poor. As for the quality of SW infra in a hardware company, decide it for yourself. Some groups have bad process and tech stacks. Work has little skill involved but lots of drama and politics. Often, people need to stay late to work with colleagues from different timezones.

Pros: Smart, passionate people, interesting problems, great technology, a green, responsible company, and an enthusiastic CEO. I learned a great deal about what it takes to ship a competitive, complex microprocessor.

Cons: With a large software base, my area was understandably resistant to change. Many thousands of lines of Perl have a way of chipping away at the soul. After getting tired of my department, it took time to get gears turning to move to a new department, before I ultimately decided to move on to other challenges. A circumscribed job role limits the number of technologies one is exposed to. I enjoy wearing many hats, and was only able to wear a few.

Pros: Above-average paycheck, decent medical.

Cons: 1st tier management, lack of willingness to try new things, village culture.
