Focus mainly on DB fundamentals like backup/recovery, cloning, and performance tuning. For Apps DBA, cover installations and advanced steps such as shared appltop, PCP, etc.

Pros: Paid well and reliably. In the beginning, I left contracting to work on the Oracle/MySQL business. It was a good move and worth it in the end.
Cons: There was a new manager that I was assigned, who was trying to make a name for themself. My relationship with them might could have started better, but the sequence of events went downhill instead. I believe it didn't have to go that way, but that's how it went. I no longer work there.
