I believe PayPal is making a joke of its interviews and taking advantage of the job market. I'm not sure how senior SDEs are evaluated and rejected based on just one junior's feedback.
The interview was a coding challenge that iterated on the original problem from the Karat interview. It was originally scheduled for 45 minutes but ran close to an hour.
Karat - 2 problems in 1 hour.

Iterate on the Karat problem. You'd be forced to implement the interviewer's approach, though it may not be the best. There is plenty of time to finish it, given that this round runs for an hour. Arguing will end up in rejection.
