Process

Initially, a phone screen was arranged with the hiring manager. Two weeks later, they asked me to come onsite.

I had four rounds of interviews:

  • Two technical rounds
  • Two managerial rounds

The hiring manager then arranged for a discussion with a director over Skype two weeks later.

Questions

a. The first interview focused mostly on multithreading, generics, and other Java essentials. b. The interviewer presented a design problem and asked for probable approaches. c. In the second round, the interviewer explained the overall team structure, the responsibilities of each team within the project, and where I would be working. Incidentally, the interviewer was also focused on the same design problem given by the first interviewer, and most of the questions were almost identical to those asked in the first interview. It appears they may be running out of interview questions. d. The third round was a casual discussion about my managerial skills and difficult situations I had faced, along with how I handled them. e. In the fourth round, questions like "How would you design Twitter?" were asked. I attempted to scope it down to a reasonable problem for discussion, and the interviewer seemed quite happy with my approach. Two days later, HR called to inform me that everything was positive so far and that the director wished to speak with me over Skype. f. The Skype round included questions about the toughest problem I had solved and how I approached it, as well as questions related to my management style. A few days later, HR informed me that all interviewers had provided consistent positive reviews. He sent an email stating, "We would like to offer you." He requested my payslip beforehand. After I sent my payslip, there was complete silence. I attempted to reach HR by phone and email, but he consistently avoided me. I was baffled by such unprofessional behavior from an esteemed organization. It certainly casts a poor light on how PayPal Chennai handles candidates. Having undergone six rounds of interviews and receiving a reply from HR that they intended to offer me a position, only to be met with silence without any further response, demonstrates how poorly PayPal HRs behave. I feel I wasted my time there.
