Pros
  • Decent to good work-life balance (team-specific) for the most part.
  • People are generally nice and quite chill.
  • Established payments system.
  • Benefits are quite decent.
  • Good stepping stone into FinTech, reputable brand name.
Cons
  • Very little innovation.
  • Siloed, cross-domain/team work is painfully slow.
  • Subpar compensation compared to actual counterparts, which they refuse to acknowledge.
  • Dev tools are more often than not clunky and unreliable.
  • Big company with lots of bureaucracy and politics; leaders either can't or don't want to change/improve things.
  • Upper management does not inspire confidence in driving the future.
  • Too many reorgs, lack of stability and clarity in terms of roadmap.
  • An ageing husk of what used to be a revolutionary tech company in the 2000s.
Advice to Management

Stop focusing too much on virtue signaling and "woke" company image. What the company really needs is a new engineering-oriented vision and product innovation to keep up with competition, which is already rapidly threatening PP's market share. The current level of compensation means you're going to bleed quality talent and only retain/hire third-rate ones. That does not reflect well on the company's future prospects.
