I applied online and received an email from HR, then directly from the Staff Engineer (interviewer). We had a phone interview that lasted around 50 minutes.
The questions covered a few points from my resume related to embedded systems programming, then moved to basic C/C++ questions. These included static variables and functions, volatile, and heap/stack memory. RTOS was also discussed. The interviewer gave me a one-line code snippet and asked where it might fail or crash. I don't recall the exact snippet, but the point was to assess my understanding of pointers.
Then, I was asked to write code to calculate n factorial recursively and to enter numbers in sorted order using a linked list in C.
The interviewer was a very professional and positive individual, but I was not well-prepared and did not succeed.
I now have another interview for a Software Test Engineer position in three months. I passed one phone interview, and this time the questions are not as technical.
Everything is just the basics.
