Process

The experience was okay, but dealing with HR was horrible.

I applied online in January and had a phone screening in February, followed by an onsite interview in March.

  1. I applied online. A week later, I received an email for a phone screening with technical staff. There was significant confusion between HR and the technical team. HR initially stated they were not moving forward with my profile, but I later received another interview invitation and was asked to come in for an onsite.

  2. Onsite interview: I met with the HR person briefly and then participated in four one-on-one interviews with team members. The following day, I had a phone interview with the Sr. Director of Engineering, as he was out of town. It was an okay experience. The questions were mostly technical, focusing on my Ph.D. thesis and papers I had written. I am confident I made a good impression.

  3. I was told I would hear back within two weeks, but I did not. I emailed the hiring manager, and he responded that they were interviewing other candidates and would let me know soon.

  4. I waited. I heard nothing for another four weeks. I then emailed the hiring manager again, but received no reply. I emailed HR, and they replied that they had selected someone with more experience for the role. It took them nearly eight weeks after my onsite interview to communicate the final decision.

  5. Regardless, it was an okay experience. The primary issue I would like to highlight is how HR handled the process. Additionally, the overall interview process could have been faster, which I believe also depends on the team's involvement.
